Sitka, Kentucky (June 26, 2015) 201 Speedway is gearing up for the biggest dirt late model event in Eastern Kentucky on Thursday, July 2. The stars of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will invade the 3/8-mile oval for the inaugural “Bob Miller Memorial.” The nation’s top dirt late model talents are expected to battle a strong contingent of local and regional standouts, all chasing the $10,000 top prize.
Thursday’s mega event includes a complete show the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, featuring: Hot Laps, Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and a 50-lap main event. The Open Wheel Modifieds will also be in action.Â
The festivities will get underway with the pit and general admission gates opening at 3:00pm. A driver autograph session will take place from 5:30pm - 6:15pm, featuring the top 12 drivers in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series standings. There will be a mandatory drivers meeting at 6:30pm, with hot laps set to begin at 7:00pm. General admission is $30, pit passes are $45, with kids 10 and under admitted free to 201 Speedway.
Racers and fans alike can come out and enjoy numerous activities, including: fireworks, a huge vendor midway area, and more. One lucky fan will win a two-seater ride with hall-of-fame driver, Scott Bloomquist. Blind teenage singing sensation, Marlana VanHoose will be in attendance to perform the National Anthem.
Bob Miller, owner/operator of Miller Brothers Coal, changed the lives of many in Eastern Kentucky by employing hundreds of local residents. From launching the racing career of Eddie Carrier Jr., to his long-time partnership with Scott Bloomquist, Miller had a passion for racing unlike anyone else. He was also a huge supporter of the Youth Foundations in Knott County. Bob passed away in November 2014 at age 73 following a long-term illness.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is the premier national touring sanctioning body for dirt super late models. The Series will sanction 50 events in 20 different states in 2015. These Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt racecars are on the cutting edge of technology in construction and are powered by 800 horsepower V-8 engines based on the Chevy, Ford and Mopar power plants. Nothing is “stock” about these $70,000 machines that provide dirt slinging, sideways, door-to-door racing action lap after lap. The in your face excitement of a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event is second to none in motorsports!
Jonathan Davenport, of Blairsville, GA, leads the current Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship standings over four-time champion, Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL. Defending champion, Don O’Neal (IN) is third, followed by three-time champion, Jimmy Owens (TN). Two-time champion, Scott Bloomquist (TN) rounds out the top five in series standings. Sixth through twelfth include: Dennis Erb Jr. (IL), Steve Francis (KY), Brandon Sheppard (IL), Devin Moran (OH), Jared Landers (AR), Eddie Carrier Jr. (WV), and Chris Brown (TX). Brandon Sheppard leads the current Lucas Oil Products Rookie of the Year chase over Chris Brown.
